Buenos Aires: A holiday from a holiday

After riding the Ruta 3, it was now time for a holiday from a holiday. What better place to do it than the magnificent city of Buenos Aires? Even better – we enjoyed the company of Matt’s parents who had travelled from Sydney to see us.

We stayed in a fantastic apartment on Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo. This is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city, famous for its cafes, antique shops, markets, cobblestone streets and of course, tango.

For a little over two weeks we became regular tourists (that is, tourists without motorbikes) visiting all the main attractions and exploring the suburbs. La Boca, Palermo and Tigre were some of our favourites. For us, this was also time for some “housekeeping”: we gave all our gear a good clean, serviced the bikes and began organising the next stage of our trip. We even successfully negotiated getting much needed haircuts, in Spanish.

We left Buenos Aires with a better appreciation of Argentine history, culture, food & wine! It was hard to say goodbye to Matt’s parents, Bob and Yvonne. We loved sharing this part of our adventure with them!

We departed via ferry across the Rio de la Plata to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. After the chaos of a capital city, we were happy to settle into the relaxed, rural atmosphere of Uruguay. We thoroughly enjoyed riding across this country. Until we reached the next border…
